Unemployment problem in Bangladesh

Unemployment problem in Bangladesh

Unemployment can be defined as when a person tries hard in seeking a job but is unable to find any job for a living. Undoubtedly unemployment is a great curse for a country.

Need a job

To produce quality graduates, education should not only be theoretical but also need practical education. If a country's education is focused mainly on theoretical education then there will be great problems in the future for the country. It's really sad but true that in Bangladesh the education system is mainly based on theoretical not practical. The graduates from different universities in Bangladesh have very little or no knowledge of practical work beyond theoretical terms.

Bangladesh is one of the most populated countries in the world. According to worldometers, Bangladesh ranked 8th with 1.01%. But we have very few jobs regarding our total population. According to the census report of Bangladesh, 27.82 percent of the country's population is currently youth. The current population is 16 crore 51 lakhs 58 thousand 616 so that means 45 lakhs 47 thousand 127 people are unemployed in Bangladesh.
Moreover, every year almost 10 lakhs or 1 million fresh graduates come to the job market after just finishing their graduation program. So it's a matter of concern for an underdeveloped country like Bangladesh.

According to Statista.com, the unemployment rate in Bangladesh in 2021 was approximately 5.23 percent. After a decrease from 2010 through 2011, Bangladesh's unemployment has been steady at around 4.3 percent.

Some reasons for unemployment in Bangladesh

Fragile educational system: To produce high-caliber graduates, educational institutions must offer both theoretical and practical instruction. The majority of graduates in Bangladesh have little to no education beyond theoretical education, which is a sad but true fact. It is common in most universities, Especially in today's public universities. They have typically memorized books throughout their academic careers, which has caused them to become wholly unrelated to career-oriented education and essential skills for a bright future. As a result, they don't meet the current requirements of the industries.
Lack of skilled teachers: Our country's lack of properly skilled teachers. A teacher can torch the nation in darkness. He can inspire the student and ignite their imagination as well as creative power. He can make love by learning something new. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." –Albert Einstein. In our country teachers mostly focus on the ability to memorize power instead of thinking power and creative sense.
Lack of skill development programs:
The youngsters are never instructed to conduct thorough research or take part in skill-building activities. Young people are unable to express their creativity as a result. Because of this, skill development cannot begin at an early age. The entire development of the nation can only be accelerated by turning these common youths into human resources.
Lack of Technical training programs: Even developed countries have technical programs in their education system because they know without a technically educated person their life will be more difficult. Society's mindset is also a big reason for this lacking.
Large population: As mentioned before, Bangladesh has a large population in number. Therefore it's really difficult for a fresh graduate student to find a job easily in this competitive job market.
Passionate for Government jobs: In most cases, students from different universities in Bangladesh are so obsessed with government jobs. As a result, they study more for their government job preparation studies. Many students just pass their time by taking BCS or other government job preparation. As a result, they stay unemployed for a long time because they study for a long time taking job preparation.
Poverty: Poverty is another reason for the employment problem in Bangladesh. Most of the families in our country are middle class or below the poverty line. For some families, it’s quite impossible to bear the expenses for their children's education expenses.

How to eliminate or How solve the unemployment problem in countries like Bangladesh?

  • The curriculum of the course in both school and college, as well as university, should be changed to the up-to-date level. The curriculum should be based on the 21st century. This century is based on information and technology.
  • Education topics will be job oriented and not depend on memorizing ability rather should be depending on critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, creative thinking, etc.
  • IT skill-based programs should be mandatory at all levels of education systems. Like basic computer knowledge, and coding for children. In developed countries, we can see they are very focused on this. They have developed many programs for their children to learn coding with fun i.e. Scratch jr
  • Our youth lacks communication skills compared to our neighboring country. It's because they are not nurtured by this crucial skill at their primary level. So I recommended that communication-based programs and workshops need to be established in every primary school and college.
  • Writing, drawing, debating, and participating in quiz competitions need to be organized regularly in every school and college, and participating in these competitions will be mandatory for every student.
  • The teacher will encourage the student to be an investor, entrepreneur, and business person rather than a job seeker.
  • A highly educated person can be unemployed. They must join a company wherever they find any sort of opportunity not sitting idle for government jobs.
  • For students from all levels like school, college, and university, it will be mandatory for them to join different types of clubs in their institutions. Thus it will develop their leadership skills.
  • Government as well as different private sectors needed to come forward to produce skilled manpower in the country.

These all are necessary to eliminate unemployment in our country. That's all for today.

Suggest to me if any things could be improved. Thank you. [Ajmain Sourov]
